24 November 2008

Oops I didn't make it.

However, for me, 20 days isn't 1/2 bad, considering the sparcity of my recent blog postings.

I am finally done with the biggest project of my college career. All 150+ pages of it. Which is relaxing to say the least. One more two page paper and I am done for good!

K and I are going to watch her friend dance in the Nutcracker on Sunday, and I cannot wait. My mom has always taken me for as long as I can remember, but this year she said that I needed to take a different little girl, so of course I thought of K. My friend is going to come down and bring her daughter as well, so we'll have a blast. We'll go to the show and then probably out to dinner afterwards.

My only concern is B. He's jealous that we are going to have yet another 'girl's day'. I really need to find an activity for just he two of us, but that's a lot harder that it should be.

20 November 2008

Managed to finish another lesson plan for my last school project today. 1 more to go and then the post assessment and all the little other things that go with it.

It seems like such a giant waste of time. I would much have prefered to come with a unit that might actually indicate some level of growth in ALL of the students, rather than paying attention to just a few.

And, it's not like I'm going to be able to find a job anyhow, seeing as how all the districts around here are in a hiring freeze. Anyone know of any school district ANYWHERE that is hiring????

19 November 2008

I am officially banning myself from the internet for the remainder of the evening. After procrastinating all semester, I have a massive project due that I have barely begun.

Unfortunately, I still want to procrastinate, especially since I just finally found a copy of one of Melissa Wiley's Charlotte years books that go with the Little House books, and I finished the fourth book in that series and would really like to go on to book five.

Therefore, I'm turning of the airport on the Mac and typing. From now until 11 or so if necessary and then again for the next two or so days. Ack!!

18 November 2008

I've gotten my kids into the Little House books. One of my reading groups is reading the first book, but even the kids in other groups have been grabbing them like crazy. The kids in the group are having a hard time reading only the assigned chapter and continue to go ahead on a daily basis. I'm glad that it seems to be a good book choice!

Therefore, I'm re-reading them. I forgot how much I really loved them as a kid. I've always been into historical fiction so it's been fun sharing a couple of my favorites in reading group.

Even B, who is not in my class or even at the same school is desparate to read the books - next time I see him I'll drop off the first one - I can't believe how far he's come as a reader in the last three months.

17 November 2008

Perhaps if I ever got over this nasty cold I'd be able to think of something to say?

Oh, and no one played yet... scroll down a little and try to guess my playlist...
Hint, I discovered how much Tim McGraw I really have when hitting shuffle!

16 November 2008

At this point, I'm just doing this for me. I think I want to prove that yes I can post for thirty days in a row, even if my content is dull.

I slacked big time on a major project that has to be at my university by next Tuesday at 5pm. I'm less than 1/2 way done with it, so I know how I'll spend the remainder of the week. If I mail in on Saturday I'll be safe, especially if I email it first.

There are absolutely NO jobs available for me when I'm done in a couple of weeks. Which sucks. Because I really need to have an income.

15 November 2008

Music game I stole from my friend

It require interaction, though, so comment and play!!

Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post a line (unless the first line reveals the song title) from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses the song title correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game, post your own

1. Morning after the night before, I'm still feeling the blow, is this what they write those songs about? Maybe so.
2. Love, love, love, love, love, love. There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
3. They get up every morning 'fore the alarm clocks warning, take the 815 into the city
4. 1,2,3 Like a bird I sing, because you've give me the most beautiful set of wings
5. Horses are running wide open, I've just gotta ride to those honky tonk bars that stay open way past closing time
6. To the desparate eyes and raging hands
7. How can I honor God? How can I keep his law? I want to obey what he has to say
8. Didn't I make you feel like you were the only man?
9. I tried money, I got as much as I could and I went to the store and I bought it all.
10. So hot outside all I can wear is these cut off overalls and sandals on my feet
11. Stop to have a few at five, now you're crossing that center line for the third time. Second time like this this week
12. She's a yellow pair of running shoes, a holey pair of jeans. She looks great in cheap sunglasses, she looks great in everything
13. If I could grant you one wish, I wish you could see the way you kiss
14. The weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful
15. You don't have to go now honey c'mon tell them you won't be in today
16. Seems the only one who doesn't see your beauty is the face in the mirror looking back at you
17. It's been a long time since we walked that aisle together and you became my wife
18. No record deal, no dream fulfilled, no three minute video
19. Wake up to a sunny day, not a cloud up in the sky and then it starts to rain
20. The moon is full, my arms are empty. All night long I've pleaded and cried.

14 November 2008

i have gone from an earache to a runny nose that won't stop. I can barely breathe. And my kids were terrible today because I couldn't talk over them.

Next week is the last week of full control, here's hoping I feel better.

13 November 2008

Um, I almost spaced this tonight. In my defense my ear is still aching, worse than usual and I just wanted to go to bed hours ago but didn't manage too.

I'm officially obsessed with Taylor Swift's new CD. I love all of it - I could have used several of these songs a couple years ago. But now, I'm just glad they exist for the girl like me.

I cannot get my printer to print and it says that it still has ink. And it pretends to print only to spit out white paper. I have no idea what I'm going to do about school tomorrow when I need to post objectives. Boo.

Okay now I'm done and heading to bed.

11 November 2008

I was told that I was a great mom today.

The kids and I went out to lunch after visiting one of the local bounce houses and a lady walked up to my table as she was leaving and said that she had raised 10 kids and had to tell me that I was a great mom.

K was cracking up and B didn't make a comment until after she'd walked away. But I told that that she only said that because they were so well behaved and didn't argue with me about the fact that they needed to eat more veggies and not only pizza and cinnamin sticks.

10 November 2008

Please go check out this site - it's a blog giveaway of a different sort. Helping families in need in the holiday season and since I'm not seeing the opportunity to participate in Operation Christmas Child this year (another AWESOME, rewarding program, check it out if you've never heard of it) the least I can do is spread the word.
Under the Tree 240x240

09 November 2008

My friend told me that she wanted to see this picture the opposite way of the other one so I played tonight. What do you think?

08 November 2008

Short post once again.

I'm at my friend's and despite the fact that her boyfriend/fiance/whatever he is has been fighting I can't get the wireless to work.

Therefore, I'm on her computer in the basement. Where it's like 40 degrees.

I'm outta here... more pictures tomorrow!

Song of the day will return then as well as I've got nothing right now and can barely feel my fingers as they trip over the keyboard.

07 November 2008

I've got nothing today. Really I'm so tired that I can't even think of anything to come up with that might be interesting to any readers - not that I know if anyone is reading. NaBloPoMo has brought me zero comments.

So for today, I've posted but with little to say. Perhaps another day I'll have more to say. For now, I need to figure out how to replace the crappy quality picture I ordered an 8x10 of off of kodak.com.

06 November 2008

I spent the day learning math strategies. I walked away with a lot of info and I can't wait to implement some of it in the classroom!

Afterwards, I took my friend's little girl and two of her friend to a play place that has open play until late on Thursdays.

While there, I asked if we could play one of our CDs and we listened to Here Come the ABCs and Here Come the 123s. Therefore, my song of the day has to be Alphabet Lost and Found. I forgot how much fun that one is.

05 November 2008

Sigh...

Day 5 and I almost missed it!

I'm at my friend's house and at some point in the process of moving the computer to the basement, I can no longer connect to wireless.

Therefore, I have to sit on her ancient, slow computer and fight with it to get it to post.

And that's all I'm going to say today. Because I kind of let it slip that I have a blog at school today. Hopefully I won't have to go undercover and sneaky again.

Ack!

Song of the Day: Tunnel by Third Day... feeling down? Check this one out!!

04 November 2008

I voted - did you?

Yeah, I know it was kinda last minute, but I finally made it about 530pm tonight. That's what I get for living in the middle of nowhere and having a job that doesn't permit voting 20 minutes away between the hours of 8 and 5. Yep, early voting was only during business hours in my town - and it wasn't even in my town!

My kids were all about the election today. Which may or may not have been my fault. We were working on proper nouns and I asked them to replace the common noun president with a proper noun and they started saying 'McCain' (we're a fairly Republican state, but I thought that was changing so it surprised me that I had very few 'Obama' contributions). I told them that doesn't work because if the other candidate wins their answer will be wrong. Most accepted this and wrote Washington or Lincoln or Bush, but I'm sure I had a few who didn't listen, I haven't graded yet.

Song of the Day: Only in America by Brooks and Dunn

03 November 2008

No pictures today. My head is pounding.

I think I may need to go to the doctor someday - if only I had insurance? I keep getting headaches and/or stomachaches just about every afternoon. But then again, it's only on school days, so it couldn't possibly be related to the stress that I feel at the end of each day, could it?

Song of the day: Alphabet of Nations by They Might Be Giants. K and I love this song. She can sing the entire lyrics - starting about Egypt, for some reason, Algeria, Bulgaria, Camodia and Dominica don't quite make it.

02 November 2008

Last night, I finally downloaded a free trial of Photoshop - I couldn't figure out how to get GIMP to work on my Mac so I think I'm going to have to go for it and buy the program.
I took these picture last weekend at my friend's request - this is her daughter and fiance. We went to a local park and I snapped a ton of pictures. I don't want to post faces - and I really love these two shots. There seems to be such innocence in the shots - especially with the little one pulling a branch along behind her.
Song of the day: When I'm Old by The Wilkinsons -- I finally got my copy of their new CD from Canada and I couldn't be happier. I love the lyrics:
I wanna laugh at myself when I trip up and when I get lost in the little stuff
I wanna take it all in stride
Touch the world that surrounds me
The beautiful around me

Edited to add: I think I've gotten the kinks with the pictures worked out. If you DON'T see a little girl holding hands and walking down the path PLEASE leave a comment and let me know. Oh, and even if you do, then I would appreciate knowing that it works!

01 November 2008

Little Miss Kitty was much more independent this year than in previous years. I was able to stand 10 steps back instead of 2 and she was good to keep going for a while. It was a close call there though, because she was infinitely fussy and tantruming before we left the house.
She made it exactly as far as last year, and last year she was in the stroller. This year I didn't mention it, so she didn't know it could be an option. It worked out nicely.
According to K, "this was a fun really night."
I'm thinking I could probably add a favorite song of the day feature to each entry at least this month... so for day 1, I'm going to go with 'Beautiful Day' from Rachel at Signing Times. K and I listened to it last night (for the millionth time) and her favorite part is the "let's play outside for hours, hours" - I have no idea why, but it's something that she's said since the first time we listened to it. I love it because I know enough of the signs that K and I can participate.
