Any ideas what to do with a five year old who has suddenly become very clingy?

This morning K wouldn't let me leave when I dropped her off at her camp (which is at her preschool, for 3 hours each morning, nothing she hasn't done before). Then she made me stay with her forever when it was time to rest today.

Is it a phase that kids this age go through? Or what is up?

Because I am the only one playing so far... (as of 11pm PST on Thursday)

So Carrie, over here, has been hosting a mix-tape party every week for the past month (well, this will be the fourth, so that's like a month right? if you ignore the fact that July is long?)

Each Friday, she posts a theme and on Monday she posts links to youtube videos and lyrics that the readers have chosen.

And even though I think she may be my only consistent visitor, I'm going to ask you to participate. So go visit Carrie. And pick a song (and only one. Because, she's a stickler like that!). And if you're young like me, interpret this week however you want! Because my other two visitors are barely out of high school - which makes this week a little more difficult. But, that's half the fun!

*As a side note - in my last post I included a picture. Click on that to see some of my others. They're pretty (and I think fairly good!) and I think I may benefit from you checking them out. So, if you wouldn't mind spending a couple minutes to help a broke college student out? That'd be great! Thanks!

Update  from below....

Not only were they able to recover the 380 pictures that were on the memory card at the time of deletion, they also recovered 535 more.

Yes, the photo shop handed me a CD of 915 pictures!

I have never been more excited about pictures in my life!!

Now if only I can get my money back...

18 July 2008

It's been high drama around these parts this week and I've been surprised at how understanding and mature K has suddenly gotten.

We spent a day at the lake with K's friends and the kids had a blast (and actually so did I although I was super exhausted by the end of it!). Then we went to the waterpark the following day which was also a blast, even though B has turned into a real brat with me lately - enough so that I don't want to spend time with him, since he's just going to be nasty to me. Any tips for working with 9 year old boys would be appreciated.

If you've been reading for a while you know that I take a ridiculous amount of pictures. You'll also note that I just got a Mac computer. Well, unfortunately I don't have a clue where the cord to connect my camera(s) to the computer is, and the Mac doesn't have the card reader that I'd grown accustomed to on my prior computers.

I therefore had approximately 400 pictures on my memory card that needed to be transferred to my computer and as my wireless printer is painfully slow I gave in and bought an adaptor thing that I could put the card into and then plug into a usb port of the computer (sounds complicated, eh? well it shouldn't have been).

I plugged the memory card into the adaptor and plugged it into my computer and iPhoto opened immediately to transfer the pictures. It acted like it was transferring them and then I got an error message. Saying that the pictures couldn't be found.

I immediately called the technical support number on back of the packaging for the adaptor where a not very nice lady said that I'd have to call a "specialist" to recover my data but didn't offer a place to find this specialist and that I had to take the product back to the store where I purchased it. I was frustrated to say the least and she had the nerve to say "thank you for call X Company, remember you can visit our website at any time." Are you freaking kidding me? K was with me while all this was happening and she knew I was upset.

Later, she asked me which camera the pictures were on and when I told her it was my big one, she said "that's the whole summer" because she knew that I had used that one most, instead of my littler camera. The next day we went to the store where some oh-so-helpful people pretty much told me there was nothing they could do but if I wanted to call Best Buy they would split the cost (which I figured would be about $200, so yeah, that wasn't going to happen). I got into the car and called Best Buy after K was buckled in and the girl I spoke with said data recovery started at $260 and went up from there. After I hung up, K asked me "is someone going to help you?" in a sad voice (she'd repeated "that's the WHOLE summer while we were at the store that sold the defective product, which was good for the sympathy factor) and I told I didn't think so because it would be too much money.

I made one more phone call and found out that another place in town will attempt data recovery (it's a photo store so I thought there was a good chance it would be possible) but that they would charge the money either way. However, since the fee was only $25 I decided it was worth, even if I only get 1/2 back (I'm hoping since I saved that other manager ~$100 he might reimburse all of it). I dropped the card off this afternoon and should have it back tomorrow, hopefully with all 370+ photos.

While waiting for the longest All-Star game EVER to end, may I just say poor Dan Uggla! I think he let the pressure of the game (or excitement or nerves or whatever) get to him, especially since it's his dad's dream to watch him play at Yankee Stadium.

I am SO tired right now, we've had two days of water activities, one at the lake and one at the waterpark, which means it's been non-stop activity and chasing after three kids (K and her two friends, whose parents were there too, but still? We all chased after all of them!).

While I've had fun, I think K and I need a little down time - which can't really happen tomorrow (we've got swim lessons and gymnastics), so I guess Thursday I'll try to get away with nothing except swim lessons.

Okay, I've got to stop typing for now... maybe tomorrow I'll write more?

10 July 2008

So, I finally caved in and bought the MacBook and iPod Touch! And I am in love!!
It has taken a bit of adjustment, but so far so good - now I just have to find a copy of Office for Mac before the middle of August.

What I do not love is that I worked 36 hours this week and was not compensated fairly. K's mom said she'd "make it up to me on next week" but what does that actually mean?

One of these days I'll tell you about our summer thusfar. But that is not happening right now, I am way to exhausted

04 July 2008

In response to comments (why does everyone show up as anonymous when I try to reply?):
Tim - Photos of other's children in the sense that I'm a nanny and I take a ton of pictures of the two kids I'm with the most, as well as a few of my friends' children. So not "portraits" in the sense that I would sell them, but a lot of candid shots of our activities (whether, it's the park, bowling, etc).
Carrie - Yes, you can set your own price, and they have recommendations to go off of. I think I kept their pricing for the most part, and I don't truely believe that I will sell anything, but it'd be cool if it happened. I might consider posting a few of the kids privately and sharing with their parents, but I wouldn't feel comfortable having those pictures purchased by anyone else.

What are your plans for today? We are going to head to the town that I worked in last summer and have a picnic dinner while waiting for the fireworks. I might think about finding a letterbox hunt to go on, but I may decide to save that for later this summer as well.

Have a great and safe hoilday weekend!

Photrade

Sell photos on photrade | By MissAngela85

I took this picture at a wedding last weekend. There were tons of beautiful flowers and I had a lot of fun playing with my camera trying to get good shots.

And then, I was invited to photrade beta... finally! This means that people can buy my pictures, which is a little tricky seeing as how most of my pictures are of kids that don't belong to me. However, I think I'll go through some of my older pictures and put up ones of the ducks and wild horses and such.
