I feel the earth move...

We've been earthquaking tonight.

There was a 5.0 (which has since been labeled 4.7, 4.9 and 3.2, wtf?) at about 1145 and I cannot get back to sleep. Probably doesn't help that my parents are like 500 miles away and the cat has been sitting in the doorway for the last hour. Seems she's smarter than I am!

The town were the university is located has had a great number of quakes over the last few weeks, but this was the first one I felt. It's epicenter is fairly close to my brother's apartment, so I wonder if he had any damage. There's a broken water flume that appears to have been caused by a boulder coming loose.

I really need to get to sleep but my mind and heart are still racing...

My college sucks.

It won't allow me to register for classes.

Therefore, I have to take a day off of work in order to make it to the school in time to get an add slip. Thus, costing a tank of gas ($50) and $40/day for the next 30 days.

I am pissed right now.

A Couple Things

  1. Does anyone have good book recs? I've been reading a lot lately, but largely young adult (like fifth-eighth gradish) and am looking for something more substantial - or at the very least really good YA books!
  2. I just found out the person who I've been "subbing" for resigned. Meaning I therefore have a job through the end of the year for sure.
  3. K has suddenly grown up. I was looking at pictures from yesterday and couldn't believe how big she's gotten in the last few months. It's kinda sad, but very exciting as she sits at the table and colors in the lines like the "ready-for-kindergarten" kid she is.
  4. I probably could say more but I need to plan for tomorrow and call K's mom because I think I'm supposed to watch her tomorrow night but I'm not sure.

I just finished reading Rockabye. What an awesome read! I have been reading Girls Gone Child for probably two years (even if I’ve commented a grand total of four? times!). I was concerned that I may be bored because what could she have written that I hadn’t already read? A lot. Yes, I remember a number of the stories from the blog because the book is about her and her life since her son was born, but she has such a way with words that the book was all-new. I’ve been working on it for three days, reading whenever I can but since I need sleep it took until now to get done. I don’t think that you have to be a parent to enjoy the book, even though it is marketed that way.

This week is an odd one. The teachers have an all day training tomorrow (which I am not going to, so I have the day off). Tuesday was all day observations. The older kids are taking a writing assessment so I’m not needed in there during my normal time. I have had a ridiculous amount of planning time and am done with next week. Unless the book that I ordered from Amazon for Friday arrives by tomorrow (please? The kids would really appreciate it!). If that happens then I’ll have to cross out a book title and change it to the new one which is not a big deal.

I joined the gym about a month ago and had a goal of three times a week. That quickly became twice. Thusfar this week, I’ve gone twice so hopefully I’ll make it more. The wedding is coming up after all.

My friend and I went to Gymboree today to use our Gymbucks (never heard of 'em? don't worry check out the link).

I had only planned to spend $25 dollars, (really $50 minus the Gymbucks). But, alas, no matter how hard I try I can't resist cute kids clothes for K and my friend's little girl (who is now 2.5).

We bought matching dresses - this polka dotted one.

We also bought this cute pink top with turtles (she now has much of the collection because they are just cute).

There's also a turtle purse - which the 2.5 year old now owns.
It was fun and I know the girls will love the dresses as much as we do.

My friend's brother and his fiance are having a baby in August and I bought this outfit for him, with the matching hat.

I also finally managed to track down a copy of Rockabye - apparently only one store in the two cities that I shop in had a copy. Sadly, it was not the one that I had a gift card too. But, from what I'm hearing the book is pretty great so I think I'll get over it!

06 April 2008

I hinted that my brother is getting married in my last entry. Well let me just say that this is going to be a great two months until the wedding. First of all, it's at our house. Anytime we have ANY company my mother is so obsessive about the house that it's like no one is allowed to know people actually live here. Imagine, if you will, what that'll be like if there are 100 people here. Secondly, I don't know if I can deal with that much family. I'm happy for the brother, but seriously? My grandparents are nuts and dealing with them is so emotionally draining that I wouldn't be surprised if I end up in my room for the entire event. Third, my mother is super controlling. She immediately wanted to take over. Which is ridiculous since neither of my parents have been working lately due to my father's chemo treatments. Why take over if you have no way of handling the costs?

On the plus side, K and B's mom has asked me for A LOT of time between now and the beginning of summer. I miss those kids even though I see them fairly often, so that'll be good. It'll be nice to have somewhere to run to when frustration mounts due to events at home.

01 April 2008

I'm watching my first baseball game of the season (because there was no freakin' way I was getting up at 3am last week to watch the first ones in Japan!). I'm also recording my first game of the season. Is is wrong to watch and record the same program at the same time? If so, I'm totally abusing the DVR privilege.

I'm really annoyed by my job right now. They have been crappy to me lately and I should go write about it on the other blog, instead of here, although it's looking like I may go back to blogging here regularly again. I neglect the other one A LOT so maybe I'm not made to keep up to blogs (at least not at this point in my life.

However, I'm beyond sad that I seem to have lost my readership and I'll have to go be a better commenter and find new favourite places to hang out in the blogisphere.
