I feel as though I neglect this blog.

It's been a while, I know. I used to occasionally come up with things that people actually wanted to read - don't know what happened to those days.

Right now, I spend a majority of my evenings planning lessons and thinking of ways to engage students during reading groups the next day. This week I was done with planning on Tuesday (the first school day, as Monday was a holiday) and yet I changed something in my plans every. single. night. Oh well, I tried, right?

I have 4 reading groups a day. In 3 of my groups, I had a child tell me that today was their last day. I was getting attached! Even if they are the lower, often more difficult children, I still love to work with them. I wish these kids the best of luck in their new schools - hopefully they'll do well.

I'll tell you about the rest of my days (really it's more fun than that statement sounded) later but for now, I must go to sleep!

I chopped off my hair on Wednesday. 10 (or more!) inches. The picture is from before I sent it in to Locks of Love.

I really like it, even though it's the shortest it has EVER been.

I'm working on learning what styles will work or not (or really what I really like to do). I wish it was a little longer since I love to stick my hair up in a ponytail and that's not really an option right now.

I'm back from the caucus.

And may I just say that the people running it were jerks. They allowed all the other candidate groups time to talk and try to convince the one undecided to come to their campaign, but gave me and the others in my group no time at all.

And they broke just about every rule possible. Kept the doors open to long, let people come and go, etc. They were absolutely clueless. I could have run it better and I didn't attend the training!

On the bright side, John got 2 delegates from my precinct and I am going to the county convention as a delegate. Sadly, he only got like 350 delegates from the entire state.

Here's hoping he does well in SC, FL and then on Super Tuesday!

I spent this weekend canvassing big time. If you know me in person, you know that I am a relatively shy person. So the idea of knocking on a bunch of strangers' doors can be kind of intimidating. However, with a partner, anything is possible. And I was even sent out on my own a couple time, which made it interesting. I found a number of Edwards supporters (as well as many undecided or Clinton or Obama voters) today, whereas yesterday, six hours of knocking produced zero Edwards supporters.

We spent a lot of time today in a neighborhood that I am very familiar with (having pushed a stroller on countless walks about the various circles in the community) - which was interesting. We knocked on something like 70 doors then decided to take a break for lunch. While at lunch I commented on the 'smoke' that seemed to be near my home.

The smoke turned out to be pogonip. We're one of the only places in the world that gets pogonip (or at least that calls it that) and it got so cold so fast that we didn't last much longer than a few more houses. It moved in so fast that I couldn't believe it. And now, we have it in the forecast for the next several mornings and evenings.

And I get to drive back and forth from K and B's house to work every day. Oh yay!

Apparently I should have participated in delurking day, as I have had more people visit today than I have in a long time.

If you're reading this, stop by and say hi! I love comments.
If you are an consistent reader, thanks for sticking with me through the last several months. If you are new, welcome!

And now, I must get back to the lesson planning, and the determining how I'm going to work with a group of students on such very different levels. Can I move a child up to the next reading group one week in?

Day one of the new job, and may I just say that it is awesome?

I am an inclusion teacher, meaning that I help students who are below grade level in a variety of areas (mainly reading). In some classes, I'll have my own reading group, in others I'll just help wherever needed.

In one class, they are just beginning a unit on rocks and minerals. I swear I'll never get away from rocks and minerals. Ahhh! I need a new science subject and fast. Actually, I have lots of resources that I can share which is cool and I finally get to use some of the supplies that I spent hundreds on during the fourish years of university.

And, the best part? It may count for student teaching. As a paid internship. I don't know yet, and won't know possibly until next week, but isn't that potential opportunity awesome? If it doesn't work this semester it almost certainly will next, which is even better. I just wonder why the intern coordinator didn't mention it earlier (especially since my main concern since day 1 has been how am I going to afford to student teach?).

It sure is pretty. So far, we have seven inches with another 5-7 predicted today/tonight. I don't think it's snowed like this here in a really long time.

The snow is falling

We've gotten about an inch in the last half hour. And we have two more days of this... ahh!

I wonder if it will affect my job that begins on Monday?
